We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen & Helen Oxenbury

I love this book because it is full of rhythm and rhyme and wonderful words like... "Swishy, swashy" and "Hoooo Wooooo".  Children and adults alike love to read thisbook aloud and the pictures by Helen Oxenbury are delightful.

Who Sank the Boat by Pamela Allen

Every time I pick up this book I always ask myself, "Who sank the boat?" The illustrations in the book are great and the rhyming is too! I have loved this book since I was little, the first moment it was read to me.  My favourite character in the story is the sheep because it got into the boat ready to knit! My favourite part of the story was when the boat sank.  So... do you know who sank the boat??

The Raggedy Anne Stories by Johnny Gruelle

I love this book because it is one of the few that I can read again and again.  Raggedy Ann is a toy that is alive and even though I know what will happen it still amazes me how much mischief she and her friends get into.

My Favourite Stories - A Collection of Australia's Best Loved Stories

I love this book because it is really funny and when I was little it was my favourite book.

The Triantiwontigongolope by C.J Dennis

"Ahh so many memories" says this person of her favourite book.  Whenever she couldn't do something her mum would say
"Tri-
      Tri-anti-wonti-
         Triantiwontigongolope."

Dougal the Garbage Dump Bear by Matt Dray

I love this story because of the great characters and the wonderful message at the end -
"Sometimes bad things happen so that good things can happen. You just have to make the best of it!"
I loved the characters and how they cared for each other.  The illustrations were very cleverly done.

Maggie and the Chickens by Jane Hollowood

This well loved book was my favourite as a child. I would ask Mum and Dad to read it to me night after night.  It brings back many precious memories and there's also a lesson to be learnt from it!

Mrs Millar's Frog by Kerry Anne Jordinson

Mrs Millar's Frogs is the true story about the frogs that love to hop and hide in Mrs Millar's home in Broome Western Australia ... until an unwelcome visitor pays a visit!
This story always makes me think of home and some of the very unusual places you would find little green frogs!

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Please take note that  two people have chosen this book as their favourite - must be a good one!
My favourite picture book is ‘Where The Wild Things Are’. My dad used to read this to us before we went to bed. “I’LL EAT YOU UP” he would say with such a scary voice that I sometimes thought he would! I
love the pictures and the storyline....sometimes Max reminds me of ME- AWILD THING!

The Story of the Little Mole Who Knew It Was None of His Business by Werner Holzwarth and Wolf Erlbruch

When I first read this in the bookshop, I couldn't put it down - every page made me laugh! I knew I had to have it.  It's silly and it's fun.  Just one of my favourite books to read when I need a giggle....
A LITERARY MASTERPIECE!!

The Wide Mouthed Frog by Iain Smythe and Michael Terry

I loved reading this book 'in character' to my children - they loved all the silly voices and the final punchline when the Wide Mouth Frog backpeddled and changed the name of his species. it was great to see this version of an old favourite fable incorporating many
Australian animals into the story.

Koala Lou by Mem Fox

I always remember reading this book to a grade 5/6 class.  I was a little embarrassed as it brought tears to my eyes and when I looked up sheepishly from the book to explain my tears what did I find - most of the class also had tears in their eyes also!  A sign of a great author is the ability to evoke empathy.

Well Done Secret Seven by Enid Blyton

I loved this book by Enid Blyton when I was young because it had lots of things in the story I liked to do as a child.  These were to climb trees and have a tree house, have a secret club where we hadour own names and badges, have secret partoes and overall it was a great adventure story.

Drac and the Gremlin by Allan Baillie

I love the illustrations and the descriptions
"quivering jungles, across the dark and poisonous fume of the black volcano"
How good does that sound??!! Plus my Nan gave it to me when I was studying to be a teacher.

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

I love The Hobbit!  It was my first favourite book.  My sister read it to me when I was in primary school and I couldn't wait ot hear it each night.  It was this novel that started my fascination with dragons and famtasy stories.

The Big Red Bus by Judy Hindley

I chose this book because it brings back childhood memories.  I saw this book on playschool when I was aged one! I loved it so much my mum had to ring four different book stores to get it for me.  It is a wonderful, engaging children's story.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

This is one of my favourite books because it makes me feel like I am young again and I want to be adventurous.

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

This was one of my favourite books as a young girl.  It was a way that I could be in another world and was so magical to me as a young child in a new land.  It was so exciting at the time.  A bit like Harry Potter to the new generation.

The Muddle Headed Wombat by Ruth Park

This is my favourite childhood book (though I haven't read it for years).  I love it because my dad once tried to read it to me as a bed-time story but did not succeed.  He got to the part where the wombat bit a hole in the big red rubber raft (being so hungry the poor animal thought it was a tomato) and my dad just broke down laughing so much that he was crying!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

My favourite children's book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar because it was the first book I ever had as a child. I love reading it and watching how much more the caterpillar grows the more it eats.

Most books along with the clues are on display in the library now

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis

I chose this as my favourite book as it the very first book I remember being read to me when I was at primary school.

The World of Pooh by A.A. Milne

I LOVE this book and read the whole book to each of my children when they were babies.  There are so many life lessons to be learnt from Pooh Bear. He is so happy living in the moment, he loves his friends and accepts them just as they are and he gets great pleasure from the simple things in life - like honey. He is full of words of wisdom like....
"Don't forget, a tail is a tail. It isn't just a Little bit of Extra at the back."
